An enchanting story, how wonderful that the supernatural and our plane can co-exist peacefully together.
alistair - 2010-02-10 23:14:22
What is the title of the book the girls cut the fairies out of ? Anyone know ?
Carolyn Soling - 2010-02-02 17:48:15
Thank you for all the information at your website. I have never personally seen faeries but I certainly believe in them. I have a close friend in Pennsylvania who saw a single faerie on the family farm in the woods by water. I also had a friend in Plymouth, Mass. who used to see elves in red vests in the cranberry boggs in the early 1970’s.
phillipe - 2010-01-24 16:28:28
hello, I just watched the movie. Looked at the photos; they look so unreal, how could people believe it at all?

I found this a fascinating site. The story has been known to me for many years and I have always been troubled by the the "confession" made by one of the young ladies, which declared it to be untrue. I choose to belive, as is sugested in the site, that this was merely an manoeuvre to stop the now-elderly lady from being hassled by the press or to prevent any awkwardness to her family.
Tony Roche - 2009-11-20 16:42:38
The history of Cottingley is very informative. Now that I have the time I enjoyed reading about it.
sarah - 2009-11-11 15:40:46
Did Joseph Wright really exist? He seems not be mentioned in any family descriptions which seems unusual; can anyone help? Also, doesnt seem as though the character of Ferret in the film was real; the story was broken by a London paper who sent one reporter to interview the family; but I do love Tim Mccinnery in the role and his confrontation with Josephs ghost in the film!

hi i have the only 2 big photographs of Cottingley fairies but there is 3 more small ones
Elaine Sandberg - 2009-11-04 23:04:10
11/04/09 I have just learned of the Cottingley fairies. Was Watching The Antiques Road Show on the BBC channel and there were 2 ladies who had the original pictures of the girls and the fairies. They also had the camera that was used to take the pictures. One of them was the daughter of one of the girls pictured but I am sorry I don’t remember which one. This opens up a whole new area for me although my best friend of many years has always been facinated with the possibility of fairies! Love watching BBc channel. Always something new and interesting there.

I have just finished watching the movie on dvd, and thought it was lovely. I have two daughters who believe in fairies, and they had lots of questions about the movie. It was decided by all of us that fairies are real and positive creatures, and we do hope that there are still some fairies around at Cottingley.
Hazel Patricia Salt - 2009-08-25 13:08:38
I am a believer and think the only hoax was the denial as the publicity disturbed the fairies too much and they were left in peace after the denouncement.
Webmaster - 2009-08-13
Frances’s daughter has just published a book from her mother’s writings and her own thoughts called Reflections of the Cottingley Fairies. See the website for instructions on how to order

I’ve read the story several times and seen the movie, I do not like the idea that some people look at Sir Doyle as less than, perhaps he was seeking something out there to have faith in? What if we all just accpeted what was said to be "real"? Do the families have living relatives now? ie; grandchildren maybe who carry on the idea of finding that everything isnt flat but to have faith in the exisitance of that which can not be seen?
Sheena Devlin - 2009-08-10 13:16:12
A thoroughly fascinating and lovely article which I very much enjoyed reading. I hadn’t heard of the story prior to reading a short article about it in a local e-mail newsletter which provided a link and I’m so glad I stumbled upon it. I must buy a copy of Conan Doyle’s book for my little girl.
Johnny - 2009-08-01 23:12:38
I believe but why can’t we find any fairies today?
Joseph Kent - 2009-07-22 05:21:56
I really liked the story regarding the Fairies. The pictures look authentic. I have a belief in Fairy Folk, but never thought pictures were taken of them. Granted, it could be a Hoax, but unless proven otherwise, I accept the story and the pictures. Maybe someday, I may visit your town! Joe

My daughter Harper and i were reading the book Fairy Tale about the faries at the Beck and after some research found you. She is six and is an avid fairy beliver since she could walk she has sported wings. blue ones,, pink ones, orange ones, even a black pair. Faries give us hope that thier is magic left in this world. you should make a space for everyone to show thier fairy faith and thier wings for with wings dreams can fly.
Guy Watts - 2009-06-30 12:31:09
The Cottingley fairies are very intriguing. I hope that they are real.

Lexington - 2009-06-10 20:34:08
Did this craze ever reach the States? Because my dad had never heard of these girls until I told him the other day. And he was a kid right about when they CLAIMED the photos were fakes. But if you read my previos post you know I thourghly beleive the girls saw fairies. I think I’ve seen fairies before. They look like shimmery like spider webs when they’re not wanting to be seen.
Lexington - 2009-06-10 01:21:56
Maybe they said that the pictures were a fake because they wanted every one to leave the fairies alone. I admit some of the pictures look a little rough around the edges but camera’s were still a new thing in 1917, the depth could’ve easily been portrayed much differently than in actualality. I in fact do believe in fairies. maybe the pictures are a fake. But enen if they are the girls just might have wanted the world to see what they did.
Gemma - 2009-05-22 09:45:37
A lovely website. I have enjoyed visiting Cottingley via the Web. As for the fairies ---- whether they were real of fake, does not really matter; for some 60 plus years they gave the world a beautiful story and that is a feat that only one other person has ever done before and that was jesus Christ. Perhaps if the world wanted to know less of the so-called truth and simply believed the story for what it is worth, mayhe we would all be better off. I personally wish to believe that the greatest of the hoaxes was the so-called confession to so-called ’debunk’ the myth. Sometimes I think the world needs a little more charming and happy myth and a little less stark reality. Believing in fairies is a little like believing in God or Christ ----only faith makes them real and perhapss they are to children and that is the beauty of childhood.

I was browsing the Bingley web site. I was born in Bingley and lived in Gilstead. At the age of 13 I emigrated to Canada with my father and mother Alec and Mary Wilson. The Wilson family lived in Bingley for many generations. My great grandfather William lived at 27 Main St. The Bingley web site brought back many memories. Attending Beckfoot school which was the Bingley Modern and Technical school back then. I was a prefect there Jam jar fishing at the seven arches. Spotting trains at the bridge over railway tracks.Walking over Baildon moor. Sitting in the stocks at the butter cross before it was moved to it’s present location. My I do run on. I still have cousing in the area. I must get back for a visit.

I just saw the Antique Roadshow UK, I felt that an addendum to your information was needed. Frances claimed to her death that the fairies sunbath picture was real. Also that 2 more original prints and Francis’ camera had surfaced. Thank you.
Sally Joy 2009-04-24 08:43:17
Thank you very informative needed to resurch for childrens visit to Bradford media museum sleep over where they will create their own cottingley fairy photographs.

Keith - 2009-04-12 20:56:59
Very interesting the daughter of one of the girls was on `Best of Antiques Roadshow`.. showing some of the prints taken, and one of the cameras. Its also interesting to read debunkers. Some pics look like they could be cut outs.. some not. On this BBC prog it was hinted one pic was real. Those without imagination,fantasy,romance.. where are we. I`d LOVE to think they were all real, but if not, then some. I`m a sky watcher, I`d love to see a ufo.. never have, doesnt mean they dont exist. How can we be the only living beings in the universe.. and WERE there once fairies.. er, spirits.. of the woods. Some people are more sensitive than others.. DONT be blind.
louise - 2009-04-11 20:55:38
i just loved this story as a girl.how wonderful that the girls thought of doing this.i wished it was true and i love the pictures of the girls, they look so at peace with the fairies and made it look believable.though was it true that one of the pictures they wouldn’t admit to being a fake!

Why has no one else seen them? I saw one last May-- and I’m not a child. They exist.
Wether or not the Cottingly faeries were faked -- fairies are real regardless. I never believed before my encounter so Never say "never".

I wish I had heard the story of the Cottingley Fairies when I was younger. I am 57 and have a new granddaughter and I will be building her a Fairy Garden.I am collecting stories and whatever I can find to make her childhood a wonderful experience.
sarah fairy - 2009-03-28 21:18:27
I believe this story to be true how often do you hear a noise or feel a breeze/magnetic field that you cannot explain - this could well be the fairies trying to connect with you - be open minded for any event that may come your way
keely - 2009-03-26 20:04:31
I remember hearing of the cottingly faireys from my mother when I was a little girl at the time the photographs had not been proven to be "fake".I feel that there is something special about the fact that these photo’s kept the nation wondering over a couple of generations as to their authenticity and the girls nearly took the secret to the grave.Maybe people need to remember that sometimes we do not have the answers to everything and that magic and faireys have a vital role to play in all of our lives!
sita 2009-03-25 08:50:52
i totally believe in fairies. i believe these two girls with they pictures with the fairy.
Judy - 2009-03-18 18:41:52
Monkey Johnson, instead of questioning why people still beleive in fairies and want to look at this site, perhaps you should instead consider people who are merley fascinated by this story as I am sure thats the majority of people who view this site. But if they look at it because they believe in fairies, so what? Each to their own.

1. You shouldn’t say; "Unauthorised use of this material is stricty prohibited" under every photo, since as you know, the photographs on your web site are in the public domain. 2. I can’t believe that anyone in this day and age believes that these photos aren’t faked, hence I must conclude that this site is a joke.

Hi i lived in Hollins Street in the village from 1956-1972 and can remember all about the cottingley fairies, personally i don’t believe in them. however as young child, we used to play in the beck and thought it was a great place of adventure, also can anyone recall Sharkys shop,Butchers and Shackletons bakery in the village and the smell of fresh bread filling the air in the mornings.i called up to cottingley recently and took my grandaughter to see the beck and surprisingly it has not changed much. i have enjoyed looking at the photos on this site, i will look to see if i still have any from this period .
Jennifer Swaby - 2009-01-27 12:16:45
Yes I do beleive in faeries, I came to Cottingley a few years ago and a local artist who has painted some work based on the Cottingley faeries, kindly took me in to her home and showed me her work of which I bought some. She took me across fields nearby and took me to the site where the faeries were photographed, it just felt a special place, and I felt honoured to be there, I will never forget the experience of the "beck".
Brian Adams - 2009-01-25 23:52:04
I remember seeing the photo in our local press around the 1950’60’s regarding the authenticity of the fairies and the little girl on the same photographic plate. It aroused my interest then and I still believe today. Fairies MUST exist. Why will some farmers refuse to plough up a hawthorn tree or fairy ring in their fields ?? Aren’t I lucky to live in the land of the fairies and wee folk and leprehauns..North coast of Ireland (the Emerald Isle)
Brian Adams - 2009-01-25 23:38:39
Dear folks, YES! .... I do believe in Fairies. I also , twice, saw a banshee .... but this story/film about the two little girls who were friends with the fairies is an absolute master-piece. I enjoyed the end sequence when all the faries visited the house as the long lost father returned from the wars. This film is a must-see-now for all the family and must be watched with no interuptions at all.The special effects were brilliant for that type of film. I would like to know more about the film and the actors. Where are the two little girls now?? I wonder if any of the fairies are watching or listening now. Kindest regards from the North coast of the Emerald Isle. PS.. why doesn’t everyone not bring out a web page about interesting family films.? Congratulations on your fantastic website. I hope I get the chance to visit Cottingley in the near future.

Dear guestbook, How did these girls ever make these pictures? The evidence really tells me that these pictures are real. Good job on the site! I think that these girls are amazing, and is certainly in history forever... The picture of the garden knome is really creepy. It looks so real that i think that fairies really exhist today because of so much evidence. Science cant always prove everything! I wish i could have met these girls in person, i would ask them a million questions. I wonder if this evidence could proove science wrong and that because the world is surly full of hundreds of billions of question about not only fairies but unicorns, dragons, mermaid ect. The pictures are sometimes unbelievable because the pictures look fake but, when you realy think about it, how could they pull of this task? I recently saw a knome video in argentina and it scared me to death!!!! I wonder whats in store next.... Your guestbook signer, Madeline C. ;)

Hi - fascinating pictures - for two little girls to create such trickery is fairly impossible. If the fairies are cut outs they are perfect - certainly better than I could do. And if the little girls drew the fairies first how did they get the proportions so perfect? If they were copied, where from, did no one ever come forward and say "I’ve seen these before somewhere". Did they say they were fakes to protect them. Do you have any pictures of the wonderful little house they made - again that was beyond a child’s ability.

Kamalia - Texas - 2008-11-02 19:42:04
I sincerely believe that the Sunbathe photograph is genuine, there are two younger looking fairies (children almost,a boy with short dark hair and the other to the left of him)off to the right of the pic, that if you look close enough there’s a depth to them, you can see the differences of light and shadow. You can almost feel the pudginess if you will, of the child fairies. Not only that but the obvious transparency of the wings.... ;) If we can easily believe in UFOs and aliens, then why not in fairies who are most likely to be of the friendly and helpful sort?

As a young boy in the early 60s,i lived in the house where the girls lived,it was a very magical time for me,i had a great childhood. I have met a lady a couple of weeks ago that used to live in the house before myself,my parents bought the house from her parents. Can you imagine what we are like when we get together, her husband calls us the fairies,so the cottingley fairies are real and alive and kicking.

Jasmine - 2008-10-06 12:35:22 I’ve spent years looking at photos of Francis with the fairies and it was only tonight that I paid more attention to the waterfall... I don’t know about the little fairies but there definitely seems to be something in the waterfall and it’s big.

I have alway’s belived in fairies, and now my grandchildren help me to look for fairy rings and coloured toadstools in France, when they visit. In this very troubled world, how wonderful to look at the woods and streams and listen to the quiet restful sounds of the countryside and feel the magic of a life almost lost......almost. Sometimes, out of the corner of your eye...There is more to this world if we just take the time and believe.

My name is Stella, I am eleven years old and my best friend is eight. Her name is Kasey. We live next door to eachother and both live on the same hill. Behind our houses is a forest full of green and animals. A Beautiful Stream runs right through it. It sometimes seems as if it never stops. When I first heard about the Cottingly Fairies, I had to tell Kasey. When she heard the news she was very excited. We both beleive in fairies very much and hope to be as lucky as Elsie and Francis. We have been looking for a name that we could use secretly for the small stream. Since the Stream in the Cottingley Fairies was called The Beck, we decided to call ours that.

I have always wanted to believe in fairies but find it quite difficult to do so, after seeing these photos, although still sceptical, I am a little closer to believing in something that i wish i could.
Roxanne E - 2008-08-05 21:01:36 I have always believed in fairies, why not? people are quick to dismiss what they dont believe in.people are afraid of what they dont understand.i believe that a fairy is a spirit and can only be seen if THEY want you to see them.i grew up believing that the Cottingley Fairies were real and even though Frances and Elsie addmitted that it was all a hoax i still believe that there are fairies out there living in the woods and flitting around just doing there their thing!

I have always believed, never seen, but always believed. Thank you for sharing this on the internet..... I have seen the movie but to see the actual photograph on here was a delight! I only wish I could travel there and see a fairy for myself!

I’m a childminder and take great delight in telling my ’charges’ tales of fairies.I have a set of postcards of the fairy photographs which i bought on holiday as a child.I have kept them all these years (i am now 32)in my keepsake box.It doesn’t really matter to me if they are real or fake....they are magical! If one believes hard enough then they ARE real!
Helen - 2008-07-20 12:01:51
Wow, I have just sat and watched the film about this remarkable story with my little girls and we came straight on to the internet to find out information about the original story, how truly wonderful, really beautiful pictures, the picture of the fairy bath is amazing ,my daughter pointed out that you can see other little faces in the picture!! Wonderful, would love to see a fairy in my garden! Will keep a look out!!!
Olivia - 2008-07-20 04:52:41
I believe the Cottingly Fairies to be true. I have seen a beautiful, shiney, silvery, Fairy, last Summer in my garden, flying swiftly from one spot to the bird bath, where she stayed stationary in the air, near the birds taking a bath. I stood at my kitchen window in awe, blinking my eyes several times, to make sure I was not imagining this. The tiny, silvery shining Fairy must have seen me, for she made a tiny circle flight, then flew away in the blink of an eye. But I know what I saw & I believe.

I have just got information from my father who was reticent to give it, his father & grandfather came from Bingley, & were crofters on the Cottingley Estate, then my grandfather came out here to Australia. Could you please give me any details so I can investigate what the Estate looked like, etc, so I can show him. He has cancer, & had wanted to know more of his father & grandfathers history in England. It is fascinating to know this information now, but I don’t know how long he will be with us. My great- grandfather’s name was Joseph Rowling, my grandfather’s name was Harry Rowling.

I just watched the film Fairies; A True Story, and I was curious to look into it more. I searched Cottingley Glen on google.com and came across this website. To the creator of this website, thank you for allowing me to share in this wonderful story. I believe that it is true and I only wish one day I am priveleged to meet a fairy. I fear I am to old now and they wouldn’t want to introduce themselves to me. I have always believed in fairies since I was little and this only proves my belief so much more. Thank you all again! Thank you for sharing the story and the photos. I KNOW the fairies are real, Sylvia lived with me for many years when I was a child and when I fell pregnant with my first daughter the fairies came and told me they were giving me a changeling who would need care - they were right. My last child, my son, was a gift from the elves. I am blessed. I have seen the fairies, lived with the fairies and now they entrust me with the care of Fey. I have been known as the Fairy Lady. In truth, you can only lead a horse to the water you cannot make them drink. Love and light to all...Ali x

An excellent and comprehensive website on the Cottingley Faries. Well done. I can see why Arthur Conan Doyle believed the girls as they "were" teling the truth, they did see faires.

A wonderful story. I used to own a copy of the book with all the photographs. What made me dispense with it I will never know.

I’ve never heard this story before however from reading the facts and looking at the pictures i dont believe these pictures are real. however i do believe these girl saw something and got scared that they wouldnt be believed when they were questioned about it which i why these photographs were faked.
Trimella 2008-03-12 09:49:41
I am absolutely blown away by these wonderful photographs. I am a photographer, and it wouldd take more than a coouple of little girls to fake these photos. The critique done on these photos and negatives prove without a doubt that they are real. There should be no more doubt. ...

Just thought I’d have a quite look at the website. I was born in Cottingley and lived there for 23 years. I pop back to see my parents from time to time and nothing really changes except the monstrous ’thing’ they are building where the church used to be. It is truly dreadful. It’s a shame.
Koby Rusby - Australia - 2008-01-20 10:42:18
I do believe in faeries... This site was fantastic and gave me a closer look at the photographs which I could look at forever and a day. You have done a wonderful job of presenting all the information one could want about the Cottingley Faeries. There are so many points which are made about the pictures being fake, as many times as I have looked at them and studied them, I still cant pinpoint any fault, not a cut out line, not a ’hairpin’, nothing false! Just two beautiful girls who were chosen out of the few people in the world to be chosen by faeries to see them and to appreciate their beauty and magic and wonder. Thankyou for keeping my dreams alive, it brings out the inner child in me everytime. Blessings, Koby Australia

Tim Clapham - 2008-01-09 20:19:38
There are several names which appear on your excellent website which are of interest to me. Arthur Harry Briggs (Cottingley Manor) was the driving force behind Bradford Rugby Club’s decision to switch to association football in 1907 and become Bradford (Park Avenue)F.C. Harry was the club’s chairman and main benefactor, and when he died he left £243,000, a huge fortune in the 1920s. Another Cottingley personalty, eminent surgeon George Whyte-Watson, was a Park Avenue director for a number of years. I was particulary intrigued to read that John Clapham had a Cottingley connection. I understood he came from Bolton Abbey,at the time when the Clapham family (Beamsley Hall) and Priors of the Abbey were the largest landowners in the area. John Clapham (d 1468) is mentioned in William Wordsworth’s ’The White Doe of Rylstone.’

My Grandfather was George Whyte-Watson who lived in Cottingley Grange with his family. It was lovely to see a picture of the house as my mother Frances only has one picture of her family in front of the house. I really think my Grandfather should be on the people part of this site as he was well-known locally before his death. Thank you for creating the site i really enjoyed looking at it.

I am very interested in history of places and lived in bradford for seven years, only been through the area, have any of the ancient buildings been demolished, and what year does the area date back to with residents please, like the photos, how many of the buildings have been preserved. I originate from Durham, now in halifax and have any ghostly happenings been reported in any preserved old buildings. when I can may have a look to the area.

Well, now I feel dumb! Just scanned through the web site, which I had not done prior to posting this morning, and I have read the information about the story having been an innocent joke begun by the girls, then growing into the gargantuan hoax that it became. Still, the movie was charming, and I enjoyed the story. The scenery and costumes were lovely.
JC - 2007-11-18 19:03:46
I saw the movie this morning on the SciFi channel, and it was a lovely production. Sweet story. Just saw the actual photographs on this site, and must say, not wanting to sound rude, but the "fairies" are, to me, obviously paper pictures of fairies. Sure, the photos are not "faked;" it appears the children have hung cutouts on threads and photographed themselves with the cutouts, so the actual plates were not retouched. Thus, the "experts" were not being dishonest when they said the negatives were not fraudulent. I believe I see 2 thin threads holding up the "fairies" in one of the photos. Probably the girls decided to have some fun and made the photos, and then the mother got involved and the lark got out of hand. Still, I enjoyed the story, and do believe that anything is possible in this world created by an incredible GOD.

I have recently obtained a copy of the book’The case of the Cottingley Fairies by Joe Cooper. I have a very personal recollection of Frances Way-she was my Aunt. My mother’s maiden name was Kate Victoria Way and Sydney Way was her brother. I visited Frances on numerous occasions when she lived in Mapperley-Nottingham ; she was always very reluctant to discuss anything relating to the ’fairy’ incident. My last contact with her was in 1964 when both Frances and Sydney came to Brighton to attend my brother’s funeral. My lasting impression of her was as a really unassuming lovely lady.
Martin Reppion - 2007-10-08 15:26:54
In 1979 I worked at the West Bowling Golf Club where I met an elderly gentleman, who hearing I was from Cottingley told me he could explain the ’Cottingley Fairies’ story. According to him, when he was a lad,, in the early years of the century, he lived in the village. The area around what is now the Woodside Estate and up towards Lee lane was (and mainly still is) farmland and woodland. In this area travelling gypsies used to camp. One of the sidelines of the travellers was, so he said, prostitution. The men of the village would inform each other that the ladies were open for business by refering to them as ’The Fairies’. ’Visiting the fairies’ became a euphemism for going to the camp to take advantage of the services on offer. His belief was that the girls may have heard talk of fairies in the woodland and developed their own take on it. I have only the old man’s story to go on and sadly I imagine that he has by now passed on. But there seems to be a ring of plausibility to it.
Pam Petersen - 2007-10-05 18:08:43
Thank you, what an interesting and intrigueing site!!! I do remember watching a black & white movie about the Cottingly ’incident’ (I have been intrigued ever since).

Adolfo Anciso - 2007-10-01 11:47:57
My wife and I believe the fairy story to be real. We both believe in fairies. I think that after so many years of asking the two girls if the pictures were real, that they became tired, as would anyone. I do not believe they would lie to their parents and the pictures were proven to be real. Why then did everyone question the girls for years as to how they faked the pictures. For those who don’t believe, a hundred pictures would not be enough to change their minds. For those who do believe, its a great feeling when you hear of someone who actually was a part of something so special!
Tracy Mintern - 2007-09-22 21:18:48
I had forgotten this story until I saw part of the film "Fairy Tale; a true story earlier this afternoon. It is an utterly charming story and I belief it to be true. I love fairies and have many pictures and fairy ornaments in my home and garden. There is more to this world than meets the eye and whilst I can accept that the girls saw and photographed the fairies; I am sure that these beautiful, ethereal creatures must be in despair at the state of the environment today. It seems to me that the further mankind develops its technology, the greater the impact on our natural world. I would love to visit Cottingley but would hate to disturb its inhabitants so I am happy to admire from a distance, accepting that to preserve beauty we need to leave well alone! Thank you for this site; this, the INTERNET, is one aspect of the modern world I do enjoy as it takes me to places I can never hope to travel to. Thank you xxx

It looks like the fairies and the gnome are 2D. None of them is turned back against the camera. But the girls evidently know that there are some objects. In my opinion, the photos are not fakes, of course, but there are certainly no fairies there;-) I suppose some pictures cut of paper or st like that.

I wrote this poem for a challenge on the BBC Poetry Corner message board, having watched the film several times & seen the story on T.V. as well. I do hope you like it.........
Fairy Story
Two little girls, a century ago Crossed a stream in their garden to play "But we can see no Fairies here" "We’ll perhaps see some today".
Then a game they made to show That Fairies were indeed there In that lovely garden, a long long time ago.
They borrowed Daddy’s camera And filmed Fairies flying round With gossamer outstretched And showed all what they’d found.
The people were astonished They couldn’t understand How children so young, inexperianced Had filmed a Fairy band.
No one could find a flaw In the pictures the children took And all declared them genuine Then someone wrote a book.
Their fame spread far and wide People flocked to see The stream and the glade Where the Fairies were said to be.
But, like all things human The excitment soon went away Leaving that lovely garden Littered, broken and grey.
All the damage that was done The Family did repair The children, to their Parents Said, "Never again, we swear".
Many years have passed Since that fateful day The children, now old ladies Came clean, as to how they Had filmed the Fairies in the glen With cardboard cutouts on cotton strings And cellophane For Fairy wings.
I also put the link on to this site. Val

Wow, That is the neatest thing!!! I can’t wait until tonight as it is the Summer Solstice and magic is at its highest! I think that I’ll sneak into my garden at midnight with a gift for the fairies (blackberries maybe, and a copy of my story printed in size 4 font!). Even if I don’t see the little folk, I know they are there. It is so awesome how so many people have proof of fairies = ) and they are still there right infront our nose--unseen! I’m in the middle of writing a Childrens book about fairies and I’ll attempt to publish it. Wish me luck! Bye, Camila age 12 USA P.S. That site is still in construction ; )

I believe the photographs were authentic. And I do believe that God could have made such creatures... why not? One thing is; with all the technology of nowdays why can’t experts prove that the photos are original? If were hoax, I think could be proven....even if was an hoax, still doesn’t disprove the fact that in this universe there are creature created differently from ourselves.....
Elizabeth Charman(ne Wright) - 2007-05-06 11:28:29
I grew up in Cottingley and my parents still live there. It’s great to see so many people are still interested in the fairies, even if they don’t exist it will always be a magical place to me. Wouldn’t it have been a great thing to have all the photos, cameras and letters kept safe for all to see in Cottingley itself, the townhall would have been a great place for this as it’s so close to where the girls lived too.Maybe it would have been a great attraction for people and good for Cottingley too.... alas!

what a lovely story, i love the idea of two young girls fooling the world, and reminding everyone what it was like to be young. everyone needs to remember we cant know everything about our magical world
Dawn Reyes - 2007-04-22 05:17:22
Even a scientist knows there are things unknown in the universe; In lucid states, dream states, altered realities, near death experiences, other dimensions. Things can not be seen yet we know they do exist. Neutrinos were not so long ago discovered. They pass thru things animate, they are in space, they travel, and they are confirmed. Why then not these creatures? Maybe not the ones spoken of but who can prove a truth unless it happened to the actual person! There are more things in the unseen world that the faithful are fully aware of existing. Just because one or one million did not see the creature, does not mean the creature does not exist. The hidden things are the precious miracles of a flower opening, a breeze soft on the face which causes the leaf to flutter. So why worry if none believe when only one need know that these things are real, and in the world. They have purpose, they show themselves to those who need to see them. This is a basis of many religions is it not? They are shown to the pure of heart, the lonely, the innocent, the dying, and the caregivers of the creatures of creation. Since the beginning. I am of sound mind and body. Whether or not the fairy images are real, who is to say what is or is not present in this world? I have seen things in my life, that defy reason. However, I know what I have s een with my earthly eyes. Creatures unheard of have been discovered recently, new species. Is this so hard to accept? No. So to those who are fortunate to have seen wonders in their own lives, I am happy for them. They were shown a wonderous thing and a blessing and a gift. For those who have not; Be careful what you doubt, you may find you will see something you once thought impossible or plausible will greet you on your path in this dimension! It will be a memory of everlasting joy, and one you will never conceive of yet will know happened. What then will you think of those who have told their tales of experience? Peace and Love!! A believer.

it does not matter if it is true or not it is just something to enjoy truly a magical story
joanna - 2007-04-19 08:17:10 Im studying photography at the moment and regardless of the obvious hoax I think the photographs should be looked upon as a wonderfull display of talent, technique and artistic flair for the time. The sisters have created images that are still being talked about and closely looked at today and for many years to come, opening up peoples imagination and fantasy realms for us to go in to. If you beleive to be true, great if not just appreciate the pictures for the joy they bring. Im going to try and recreate my own fairy images and hopefully will have as much success. xxxxx

Ispent a happy childhood living in the house earlier occupied by Elsie Wright. The photo of the beck brought into focus its constant sound, sometimes trickling and, when in in spait, roaring! My brother.karl and I slept in the attic where we had truckle beds similar to the ones used in Fairy-tale. The years spent in the house,31, Lynwood Terrace were from 1934 to 1940 when we moved to Bingley. My father was well-known there as the local artist who had his studio in Myrtle Place which, prior to that had been the popular Loft Cafe. I have seen the movie called fairy tale the true story and I truly believe that it really was a true sighting of these mystical beings who with good reason hide whenever we are near. I mean, we would probably put them on an examination table and disect them to see how they are made and what makes them tick, eh;!! We recently had to move house due to eviction from our landlord as he wanted to sell the house, we moved into a bungalow and we were very sad at the prospect as we left a beautiful cottage with roses round the door, etc, we had been in our new place about a week or so when we noticed a ring of toadstools in the garden where there was none the day before!! It only lasted a few days before they all died, but I felt that it was a fairy ring that had been created to say welcome to your new home, we hope you will be very happy here and we have been. It took us a while to get settled, but we just love it now, there is a field at the bottom of our garden where we see horses, sheep with young lambs, cows and young calves and chickens. In fact lots of life surrounds us and I truly believe the faries knew that and that is why they built the fairy ring to make us feel at home!! We have seen none since then, despite the fact that we have been here for 3 months now, but I know that if we feel sad again they will once again create their ring of toadstools to cheer us up again!! Long live the fairies and I will keep the cd of the cottingley ones as long as I live!! By the way, we visited cottingley just after we watched the movie, it is truly a magical place and despite seeing no fairies I know they wern,t very far away because there were loads of fairy rings around.

Last Beltane, I was preparing my solitary Beltane ritual in my sacred area in my garden (the shed) and settled down in my chair to go into a meditation. I always keep a small fairy figure that I bought in the New Forest on my alter as respect for the fairy folk that I have always believed in. I also have a special place in the garden where I leave the small folk food and drink throughout the year (the kids love it too). I was just closing my eyes when the candles on my alter flickered and I saw a darkened character with wings running across my alter. Excited I sprang up and turned the electric light on to see if my vision was just a moth or such insect. I only use the shed for magical purposes so there is not a lot of clutter and I could not find any insect at all in there, and I mean I searched each crook and cranny inch by inch. I am convinced that what I saw that night was an elemental and to this day I feel very privilaged to be one of the few people that have caught them out. However I am also convinced they do not look like the ones in the pictures on this website. They are nature spirits and not people with wings dressed out in Victorian clothes (sorry this is my opinion). Just to finish, people reading this probably think that I am a fluffy bunny sort of a man that loves everyone and is vegetarian etc, well I am not. I am 45 years of age, a General Manager of a very large company, love metal music and with my goatee beard could be confused with some kind of devil worshipper (which I am not). However I beleive what I saw and say to you all to keep an open mind as one day you maybe lucky to see a climpse of these special elementals. Mick

Dear Elsie (And Frances) I am really sorry to hear that Francis passed away. Her Spirit will live within all who love her.All my sympathy. I would like to say that I have always believed in fairies and once I saw those photo’s I knew they were real and didn’t listen to any of the media talk about it being fake. What matters is we believed in it alredi and you know yourself it is real. I do meditation and I have crystals and read doreen virtue books and have her card decks.I have never actually encountered/witnessed seeing a Fairy But I believe they’re out there somewhere. My sister saw 2 or 3 fairies when she was 10(now 17)She said she wasnt dreaming and pinched herself to see if she was awake. I believe they’re out there! You just have to believe! Love Joanna

Hello there I used to live near Cottingley when younger and remember the stories of the Cottingley Fairies. I still believe they are true, it gladdens the heart... The Dell is a beautiful spot. I’ve never understood why a film has not been made of this wonderful story, or maybe someone can enlighten me?
leanne rutledge - 2007-01-09 17:46:03
i was making a slide show which involved a slide on the cottingley fairy story.the only picture to be found on the internet was of course the first photo of frances and the fairies so that was all i could use it is a shame the others arent out the to use. cya lea xx,14
Emily - 2007-01-09 15:26:37
When I was 6 my mum bought Fairy Tale-A True Story for me and I was fasinated by it.Until not long ago I found out the supposed allegations of the photographs being a hoax. But I have noticed that if you look carefully and are very observant you can see that they are not in any sort of way 3D and could be made out of paper or thin card which they are supposedley made out of.However perhaps back then people wern’t that observent.I still think that this is one of the most amasing things ever carried out and I will always keep the video that my mum bought me.Keep up the good research!!!
Emily - 2007-01-09 15:33:21
Hello it’s me again.Just to say,I do belive that fairies exist just perhaps not there.

Holly F - 2007-01-08 21:02:57
I thinks the Faries look reilistic and are also very beatiful there are so many pictures of them, i think there amazing photos and are also very clever i am amazed at the Photogragher. There are lots of people who I think would feel the same way. They are amazing and i would belive they were real.
Don - 2007-01-08 20:40:46
Hi. I’m very interested to learn the details of Edward Gardner born 1870 - his brothers, sisters, parents etc. Also his place of birth. Any info will be useful. There are many more mysteries than fairies.
Barbara - 2007-01-05 10:29:16
I will always believe that the Cottingly Fairies exist as I believe in Angels also. The film "Fairy Tale - a true story" is wonderful - it brings the story to life. One day I hope to visit Cottingly and who knows - if you believe - you never know what you may see...I really do believe in fairies.
Denise Faulkner from cleveleys - 2007-01-03 21:33:40
I adore visiting the fairy site the pictures are beautifull . looking at the pictires restores my youthfullness.I am sure the two girls never grew old and weary it was just time for them to go.
Hayley - 2007-01-02 22:34:24
Awsome site. Although I have not seen a faerie myself, I hope to one day.
marianne - 2007-01-01 13:46:49
thank you for this website. we believe in fairies and we have some in a beautiful secret wood near us. we have to keep it’s location a secret because we don’t want the "scientists" ruining it and capturing the fairies. we visit several times a year and we have had notes and presents sent to the children from one of the queens helpers - her name is Fern. We take lanterns and a picnic on summer evenings and this is the best time to see the fairies for yourself. We love the fairies and will always look after them.
margaret bedford - 2006-12-24 14:46:51
i live in cottingley find the fairy myth fascinating, i believe in fairies, no prove to say they dont exist, a strange thing every year in our garden in Autumn a toadstool village appears different hights and sizes, looks like a fairy town ,great page found it very interesting thank you m bedford
Norma Jean - 2006-12-23 02:26:04
It is hard to belive that people really did think these were real fairies. But we have to remember that people were not as sinicle as we are today.Children used to believe in Santa for many more years then they do today. But it was all very innocent and people did enojoy the idea. We could a little of that more often. Cheers to the fairies.
Webmaster
I am sorry to disappoint you Lea, but the character of Elsie Wright's brother as portrayed in the film did not exist in real life.
Lea - 2006-12-18 00:18:39
Hi I am lea and I can’t believe Elise and Frances saw fairies in real life. I totally completely believe fairies do exist, they have to exist. I am so glad I watched Fairy Tale; A True story. Another thing, do you guys know how to look for Joseph Wright pictures? (Elise Wright older brother) I am just wondering if you know what webpage or site it could be on.
Arielle - 2006-12-13 15:37:01
It’s always fun to believe in the magickal (but doesn’t Elsie’s *hand* look distorted in the gnome picture??)

Thanks for showing the photos.I heard of Cottingley fairies twice, once in a comic book and once in a book talking about misteries.I always wanted to see these photos, and I searched for "fairies"on Google. They are disquieting! But I must say they look like drawings to me.
Ellie - 2006-11-23 21:13:10

Ellie - 2006-11-23 21:12:37
That is sssssoooo fake it looks like somfing that came from wordart dat was such a hoax lol
barry - 2006-11-21 23:26:20
i had heard about this story from friends, but upon seeing the pictures, i am quite disappointed. they do not look even remotely real or believable. to me they seem like simple picture cut outs.
Ciara - 2006-11-16 16:39:15
I am facinated by myths and ledgends, fantasy ect and I was actually watching a bbc drama that featured the picture of frances and all the fairies and I immediatly recodnised them. Frances and elsie are dead now I presume but it would have been facinating to talk to them about it. The fairies look very 2D a bit like a drawing so I’m not too sure about them and the children don’t seem to look directly at them in the pictures either. So it’s a bit like a bad movie when the actor dosen’t look right at the animation and looks to the side or right through it. It would be nice to believe but I just can’t, maybe the owners of the house can go to the forest and search for the fairies again, t hen we could get proper proof but until then, sorry, I’m a sceptic.
P.S If anyone thinks they can change my mind, has evidence of fairies, or just wants to chat about it, please email me at ciaradornan@hotmail.co.uk Thanks
Lauren - 2006-11-16 03:07:04
great site. taught me lots in minimum time. well I am 14 years old & am really interested in this whole ’faire’ thing. I believe. but only if they are real. i think, know they are real. but it’s hard to believe. the picture look one dimensional. but ’pros’ have studied it and say it’s not a fake. but they havent said its real. But whatever only one way to find out. Go to the place. during the summer. to see if they were right. or they just had heatstroke. ;] i’ll beg my brother to take me!!!
Eric Hollinrake 2006-11-09 21:56:42
Excellent site. Brought back many memories of the 8 years I lived in Marchcote Lane as a boy. I shall visit again.
Suki - 2006-11-04 03:40:37
I believe there is more in this world than we know about or understand, I believed in faries when I was a chid and in believing you are able to see. Althought these children had a happy background and family life it was a time of war and uncertainty, we have to return to our childhood to find the answers. But thank you for the history I have been aware of this story all my life and the pictures are so beautiful Suki

what beautiful pictures ,isn't it a shame that we are not allowed a little bit of fairy magic without somebody having to prove that it isn't true.

My late grandfather was brought up on rural countryside in Co. Meath, Ireland. He swore that as a boy he used to see the fairies dancing round what he called a fairy fort. I saw the place many times, and it consisted of a circular area, around 10ft wide. grandad thought nothing strange in seeing the 'little people' and described the leprechaun exactly as in the Cottingham description ie wearing black tights, a red coat and a pointed bright red hat. : :Old Mickey, as grandad was known, would have been born around 1895.

It amazes me how they got away with this and now I am researching EXACTLY what happened. I'm even contemplating writing my own book. My commonplace book about the fairies is currently quite empty but I'm hoping for the best.

Sep 17, 2006 (Bree)
When I was very young, I first saw the pictures of the Cottingley fairies and was fascinated with them then as I am now. My wish is to be where they live for I know they will let me see them because they know my heart....that I beleive they exist and are beautifl creatures in our life. I need to know they are out there. It makes my life feel a little less drab and cruel. Anyone going to see them? Please take me with you! God bless. Bree

When I was a little girl, my great grandmother taught me all about fairies and introduced me to the wonderful world of make believe. Since my initials were M.A.B., of course she told me all about Mab the queen, and I was thoroughly convinced of their existence and I just knew they were always around surrounded by their cloak of magic and mystery. I am 47 years old now, and I realize that my great grandmother would have grown up with the story of the photographs and I'm so glad she passed those stories on to me. While I don't believe the photographs were real, I definitely believe that the magic and hope that springs from the spirit of beleiving in the existence of the unseen is definitely real.

Am informed the sirname Cordingley is derived from Cottingley.

What i still dont get is how the two girls made the fairies appear in the picture. I mean, they still look so real to me.! expecially the fairy bath one.
Jul 26, 2006 (kimberley j.)
the fairies in the photos are fake but i believe Frances when she said that they did see fairies. but why could only they see them? maybe they only exist in beautiful green areas such as the beck. Maybe our world is too urban for them. However, from this site we can learn to make an effort of believing so yeh i guess i do believe. Great site!

I was born and lived in Cottingley as a child, love the tale but after recently seeing the photo's for the first time I must say that I am surprised that all this ever happened, its so clear that the pics are fake that i really don't know why there was so much speculation and fuss...it's been good for the village though and the beck itself will always be a special place for me.

I remember one summer as a child, my friend and I used to play on a patch of grass covered by trees for hours on end and I remember us quizzing back then what all the dark rings on the grass were and an elderly lady told us they were fairy rings and we didnt know what she meant. At some point afterwards, we saw lots of little moth like creatures flying up and my friend caught one and when she looked at it closely she screamed and ran home, saying it was a fairy and later described the being as a tiny woman with wings. I have believed in fairies ever since, but stay away from fairy rings for fear of treading on any. Cottingly sounds a wonderful place and its lovely to be able to believe in fairies if we want to. I do.

Feb 17, 2006 (BECKY KEMP)
I believe in fairies and nature spirits, so to find your site was wonderous
Feb 9, 2006 (Mr.) Masayoshi Ishida
I found your site in examining the current status of the SPR, in which encountering Sir ACD. I read several books by Sir Oliver J. Lodge, after I reading all the so far published "Seth" books by the late Jane Roberts. Seth is telling us that everything/every event in my(our) physical world is being created by my(our) consciousness based on my(our) own beliefs/expectations/thoughts. I am confirming the truth of Seth's teaching in regard to my everyday private events. Seth is telling us that your "apparently objective" physical world is just an illusion you created. This statement coincides with what the late Mr. Myers and Raymond Lodge are telling us through many blessing mediums. So, my conclusion on the Fairies in Cottingley is as follows: It is true for those who believe the tale, and not true for those who do not believe it. Because the two children's belief in fairies was very intense, they became truth for them, while believers in the religion "Science" are sceptical, hence the fairies are hoax. I firmly believe this principle. Mr. President George W. Bush so intensely believes in the existence of "Terrorists the American Enemy" that he himself with his supporters is creating those ones, who are so real, even if this is also an illusion, if looking from the other side. Finally I had been also a "Science believer" after finishing my college education in physics. I sincerely thank you for the interesting information on your site.

Fairies at Cottingley?::::My father showed me pictures of the Cottingley fairies when I was about 8 years old. I remember thinking, quite clearly, they’re not ‘right’. At that young age I felt they were fakes.::::Ever since I’ve been interested in the story.::::I do believe quite strongly that Elsie’s parents were in on the plot. and I believe that Arthur Wright took the photographs. They are well taken photos and they are that good that I think they are the best of quite a number of photos that were taken. The photos are not one off single solitary snaps they are too good for that as we all know even with modern cameras that you have to sometimes take dozens photograph to get the picture you were after.::::I also think Arthur protested too much often getting quite annoyed when people suggested that the pictures were of real fairies . ::::When Elsie’s mother took the photos into Bradford they were merely ‘sounding things out’ and didn’t expect the uproar that followed.::::Elsie and Frances never said that Elsie’s parents were involved; they were good at keeping secrets as they did for decades and Elsie wouldn’t bring her parents into disrepute.::

Thank you for sharing the Faeries and their Tales. Inspiring and beautiful. The factual truth behind the Cottingly Faeries is much alike as the peeling of an infinite onion because it remains as an inspiration and not as a trophey for this or that school of beliefs. I thank you for your beautiful site and wise approach to the Cottingly Faeries and people's choices of how they would like to preceive them. Blessed be!

My question is, Are there any photographs that don't have what appears to be PAINTED fairy images, that were made in the 30's or 40's? Are there any that appear real, and superimposed or painted on? :-?

My grandfather and father grew up in Bingley, Yorkshire. My grandfather and his brother, my great uncle were both highly accomplished artists, exhibiting at the Royal Academy at that time as well as elsewhere. Some of their paintings are owned by the Manchester Art Gallery in their permanent collection. I have recently acquired a small oil painting by my great uncle titled "Cottingley Wood, Bingley, Yorks" dated end Sept 1916. It is written on the back that it is for my father who would have been 4 at that time. It is a beautiful little oil painting and I wonder if it was inspired by the fairy story.

My sister and I were born in Cottingley and were christened and attended Cottingley Town Hall Sunday school. After sunday school we would often try and find the fairies in the beck. As I got older and learned of the two ladies assosiated with this, I just thank them for the many hours of fun and happiness as a child, so I therefore thought it was a lovely story.

Hi, I'm in Australia and I have just found out that I have or had ancestors born in Cottingley in 1804. ::I didn't know about the fairies but find that it is a beautiful story and belief is what makes things real. I love the fairies and I hope my ancestors were blessed by them.
Jun 28, 2005 (Joe)
I am a believer in Fairies, but I am rather suspicious of these photos...
Jun 27, 2005 (Angela Worley)
Congratulations on an admirable site! As an American, I wish that we held Nature's fairies in the same regard. I feel sure that Native Americans would understand. A little faith goes a long way. Not everything created by God was meant to be readily seen.::Cheers~
Jun 23, 2005(Tina Weinberger)
Thank-you so much for having this information here. I find this "tale" so interesting. I have always believed in the existance of fairies since a small girl (I'm now 38!) and now my daughter enjoys the dream. We have built many fairy houses in the woods w/the belief that we could provide some fun and shelter for any neighboring fairies. It's great fun. Thanks for keeping the dream alive for so many!!
Jun 22, 2005 (John)
Beautiful site!
Jun 20, 2005(Dee)

Jun 20, 2005 (Lea)
I am 17 years old and When I saw the picture of two girls with there fairy picture, right then I knew I most believe them and I most believe in fairies and I always draw them on my notebook and pad. It would be fantastic to see what the fairies looks like. If I believe in god that he exist even his son jesus christ , then I totally believe in fairies. Besides God create the earth.
Jun 19, 2005 (Heather)
I believe in faries and I also believe the girls saw them. I do not believe that the pictures are real. I believe that they thought that the pics were the only way to prove it so they made them to be believed.
Jun 18, 2005 (PamHoyt)

Jun 4, 2005(Vanessa Jobson)
No-one would love to believe in fairies more than me, I have been a fan of artwork by Cicely M Barker, Ida R-Outhwaite and one of my favourites is Lady Cottingley's Pressed Fairy Book. I remember hearing about the Cottingley Fairies when I was a child and it's now that I am an adult that I have been able to get a closer look at the phtographs concerned through your website. Delightful as they are, there is one where you can actually see the hatpin that it holding it onto the tree, it is the one with the fairy resting on the branch, I think she supposed to be hovering. Apart from that, I will always believe in fairies and feel that if the two young girls did perpetrate a hoax I applaud them for their ingenuity.
Jun 3, 2005 (Jay)
The "fairies" look like painted cut outs and even appear, (in some cases), to be wearing the fashions of those times. A splendidly cute hoax that still proves to this day that people will believe anything. At least it isn't a harmful brainwashing control mechanism like religion. Humans and the Earth have many hidden secrets and you are far more than your petty and hateful religions allow you to be. Unlock your Earth Magic and retake your power from the false gods of organized religion.
Jun 3, 2005 (John Boda)
Nicely done. Thank you
Jun 1, 2005(Tayler)
I belive in fairies. I know that you have to have faith and have to have a kind spirit to see one. I didn't know they were real till my older sister Anita told me about them. Now I really do belive and I know I will see one someday.
May 31, 2005 (Anita)
I know that there are fairies in this world. I beileve that all you have to have is a little faith, and you can see one. For the people who don't beileve, I am sorry you are missing out on something wonderful and Lovely. you also have to have to be a good person to be able to experiance such things, and that is why those girls got to witness such a wonderful sight
May 28, 2005 (Tina Mirth)
My belief in faeries has followed me thru all my life. What worth would this life have without magic, without Faeries?I have seen many strange and unbelievable things , and i know the world that the Fey inhabit is right here with us. Blessings on all who BELIEVE. and blessings on those who do not, that they may see...and know.
May 28, 2005 (Ian Thompson)
Nice to see the photographs. In answer to the unanswered question about how the wings were made transparent: the camera will have been on a long exposure time and the fairy exposed for a short amount of that exposure time, thereby creating a transparent image. Try it with a 35mm camera on adjustable exposure timing. This will not work with a digital camera.
May 28, 2005 (claudia perez lizarraga)
I DONT BELEVE IN THIS STUPET STORY
May 25, 2005 (samantha)
sweet. But it kind-a looks fake.
May 23, 2005 (helen)
Amazing
May 21, 2005 (philip)
to nils (feb 26)yes the photo believers are amusing but they`re mostly kids,i am surprised you have not allowed for this, having given us the benefit of your "rational thought"maybe learning spelling would help us take you more seriously (I know- better things to do).Forget the "unanswered questions" nothing can be proved or disproved.Who cares whether they are fakes or not?
May 17, 2005 (Laura)
Beutiful pictures. I would love to go tocottingley someday. Is it possible to get fairy photo's for myself.

Mar 27, 2005(Steve)
Superb site! I never knew Cottingley was so interesting and I've lived within 3 miles of it for 50 years! How about a modern map with the positions of the old places highlighted? It's changed so much it's hard to place the buildngs that aren't there any more.
Mar 25, 2005 (Corinne Censulla)
The pictures are so lovely. If Only I could have such an experience, for I know they exist.
Mar 19, 2005 (Cynthia)

im an a-level student and have lived in yorkshire all my life so far.::Ifind the idea of faeries exsisting absolutely facinating and i have many books by brian froud and other authors!::when i was a young girl my mum would tell me the story of the cottingley faeries.::i long ago decided that one day i would visit it, so this august i will, ready with my camera.lol.::whether elsie and frances were hoax or not i believe that its possible that faeries do exsist and look forward to proving that fact!::hopefully i will meet the cottingley faeries in august,we will see.::this site is fabulous and the picture have helped me with my design n art a-level work.thank you!x
Mar 3, 2005 (Danny)
Ive lived in cottingley most my life but never really known any history behind it. I found the 'old photographs' page interesting. How about placing the locations of the now demolished buildings over a current map so people can imagine where they once stood much better?
Mar 3, 2005 (Elizabeth)
I was born in yorkshire and have lived near cottingley all my life. Weather or not you believe that the photos those girl's took were real, there is no doubt in my mind that they are, and that there are definatley fairies at cottingley.
Feb 26, 2005 (Nils)
Look, you can't be serious suggesting that this is not a hoax afterall. For one thing, the fairies are obviously painted. None of your "unanswered questions" holds up to any rational thought. While I will happily agree that the case is interesting - as an early example of photo "manipulation" - the suggestion that faeries are real is simplky irrisponsible. What next - Angels?! Sorry, but you need to get a life.
Feb 23, 2005 (dale jeffrey)
Thanks for this website i am an a level student and am using this for my coursework, excellent work couldnt have done it better myself thanks xxx
Feb 15, 2005 (michael greco)
Thank you for your site. I loved Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's and Sir Gardner's books. I thought the movie was wonderful, but the scene where the girls were opening the sealed cameras given them, was a deliberate attempt to discredit the researchers verification techniques.::::The girls, according to the books were given sealed cameras. And they returned the cameras to the investigators, with the seals unbroken.::Thus whatever was on the film could not be tampered with.::May your lives be filled with joy!
Feb 13, 2005 (David Pratt)
Excellent web site.::I lived at 27 Woodlands Grove from 1945 to 1958 and went to Cottingley School.
