Sun Inn Public House, Bradford Old Road
Built in the early 1900s to replace the previous coaching inn which had welcomed
wayfarers for at least 300 years. The snug of the
old Sun Inn (commonly known as
Nancy's) served as both court house and a rendezvous for poachers.
In Colonel Wickham's time it was common to threaten evil doers, "I'll send tha ovver Cottingley Moor,"
meaning "before the justice". Colonel Wickham sat in the upstairs room of the old Sun Inn,
and had James Booth as his clerk. James lived and had his office at nearby Hill Top, the
entrance of which was known as "Office Gate".
