The benefactor of the Homes was Mr. Thomas Butterfield owner of Butterfield and Fraser Mill at Cottingley Bar which dealt
with textiles.
He endowed the Homes with £2000 for the maintenance and upkeep of the properties. He also established trustees to help run them
The founder chairman of Cottingley Butterfield Homes was Mr. R Riddiough - a director of Cottingley Mills.
Wilsden and Cottingley Butterfield Homes remain under the local trusteeship of Wilsden and Cottingley members.
